The Grand Scouting Centennial Parade

Susan and I journeyed to Washington, DC to link up with our council's Jamboree Troops. We stopped at the visitor center at the Washington Temple where we were sealed in 1979. The temple was closed for cleaning, but there was an impressive sculpture display in the visitors center.

We went on into the downtown where a Scouting friend had volunteer his apartment for our use. Susan stayed out of the heat at the apartment and I linked up with our troops at the new Native American Museum, which was air conditioned. The temperature was over 100 degrees.

On Sunday, we attended church at a meeting house about 15 blocks north of where we were staying. It was interesting. They had a tradition of each speaker beginning by saying, "Good Morning," and the congregation responding in kind. They also introduced all the visitors after sacrament meeting before splitting for the other meetings.

Sunday afternoon, I again joined our troops to view the Grand Scouting Centennial Parade on Constitution Avenue. There were supposed to be 10,000 Scouts in the parade and it approached that number. The parade was organized by the National Capitol Area Council. Our crew watched from beneath a shade tree on the Washington Monument square with a view of the White House in the background. We are in the picture that has Oscar the Grouch in the background. Notice the overweight man wearing the campaign hat. View more pictures at http://www.boyscouts-ncac.org/.
